Advanced Diagnostics

Catching It Early

We employ cutting-edge diagnostic equipment to detect glaucoma in its earliest stages — often before you'd ever notice a change in your vision.

Tonometry

Measures the pressure inside your eye (intraocular pressure) — one of the earliest and most important risk factors we screen for in glaucoma.

Optical Coherence Tomography

OCT imaging captures detailed, cross-sectional scans of your optic nerve and retinal layers, letting us detect subtle changes long before vision is affected.

Visual Field Testing

Carefully maps your peripheral vision to detect functional loss — often the first sign of glaucoma — and to track any change over time.

Understanding what causes glaucoma

What Causes It

A Question of Pressure

The primary cause of glaucoma is an imbalance in the production and drainage of aqueous humor — the fluid inside the eye. When drainage channels become blocked, fluid builds up and raises intraocular pressure, which can slowly compress and damage the optic nerve.

  • Blocked or poorly functioning fluid drainage channels
  • Elevated intraocular pressure on the optic nerve
  • Poor blood flow to the optic nerve
  • Structural abnormalities within the eye
  • Genetic predisposition and family history

Know the Signs

Symptoms of Glaucoma

Because early glaucoma is so often silent, these signs frequently go unnoticed. If you experience any of them — or simply haven't had a recent exam — it's worth getting checked.

Often no symptoms at all, especially open-angle glaucoma
Gradual loss of peripheral (side) vision
Tunnel vision in advanced stages
Eye pain, redness, or discomfort
Halos around lights
Blurred or reduced vision

Personalized Management

Protecting your sight, for the long term

Glaucoma is a lifelong condition, but with the right care it can be managed effectively. Our optometric team monitors your eye pressure and optic nerve over time, prescribes treatment such as pressure-lowering drops when needed, and coordinates with specialists for advanced care.

While treatment can't reverse vision already lost, catching glaucoma early and staying on top of it is the single best way to preserve the sight you have.
